A select edit from a project I'm working on. For the past several months, I've been documenting what is left inside four buildings at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard here in Philadelphia; what the space looks like and what the Navy left behind when the base was closed in September 1996.

I approached this project like an archaeologist exploring a place long abandoned and left for dead. I meticulously searched each building, looking for photographs that capture signs of human presence. Sometimes this was evident as words scrawled across a white board, traces of paint around furniture that's no longer there, discarded furniture and electronics, bits of the American flag, all long abandoned in this once great military base. The pictures are haunting and lonely, alluding to what once was.
